The recently released trailer for Sony Classic’s upcoming film Oh, Hi! shines a light on the complexities of contemporary relationships, blending humor with relatable dating dilemmas.
The story follows Iris (played by Molly Gordon) as she reflects on a surprisingly smooth first couples’ getaway with her boyfriend Isaac (Logan Lerman). However, the mood quickly shifts when Isaac admits, “I think you’re great. I just don’t want to be in a relationship right now,” moments after an intimate dinner and their first shared exploration of BDSM.
What begins as a romantic comedy soon turns into a near horror story for Iris, who finds herself trapped in a weekend getaway gone awry in a rustic countryside setting. The film captures the frustrations faced by many millennials and Gen Z women dealing with communication breakdowns, commitment phobia, and the emotional confusion of modern dating.
As tensions rise, Iris seeks advice from her best friend (played by Geraldine Viswanathan), unknowingly bringing Isaac’s own boyfriend (John Reynolds) into the mix, further complicating the situation.
Molly Gordon, who co-wrote the dark comedy alongside director Sophie Brooks, reveals that her character is based on herself—“crazy, but only five percent,” she joked in a recent Vanity Fair interview. She emphasized the scarcity of strong, complex female roles that embrace wildness traditionally reserved for men.
Oh, Hi! premiered at Sundance Film Festival in February and was acquired by Sony for global distribution. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on July 25.
