Mason Gooding, the rising star known for his role in the Scream film series, has been confirmed to play the groom in the highly anticipated bachelor party comedy 72 Hours, directed by comedian and actor Kevin Hart.
Gooding’s casting adds significant momentum to the project, which has already generated buzz following an exclusive report from Variety revealing Saturday Night Live star Marcelo Hernandez’s involvement. Hernandez is set to portray the groom’s best man and the official ringleader of the wild bachelor party central to the film’s plot.
72 Hours follows Hart’s character, a corporate executive in his 40s, who accidentally gets included in a group text among twenty-something partygoers. This unexpected inclusion leads him to join their raucous bachelor party, set against the vibrant backdrop of Miami. The film promises a comedic exploration of generational clashes, friendship, and the chaos that ensues when worlds collide.
The film is directed by Tim Story, whose previous work includes the successful Barbershop and Think Like a Man franchises. This marks the fifth collaboration between Story and Hart, a partnership that has consistently yielded box office hits. Together, their films have collectively grossed over $445 million worldwide, highlighting their strong chemistry and commercial appeal.
The screenplay is a collaborative effort by writers Matt Mider, Kevin Burrows, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, all bringing their unique comedic sensibilities to the story. Production is being overseen by John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment, alongside Tim Story, Hart’s own Hartbeat, Counterbalance, and producer Will Packer, known for his work on Girls Trip and Ride Along.
Filming is currently underway in Miami, capturing the city’s lively energy and diverse nightlife, which is expected to play a pivotal role in setting the film’s vibrant tone.
Gooding’s involvement follows his recent lead role in the Valentine’s Day thriller The Innkeepers, directed by Josh Ruben. There, he starred alongside Olivia Holt, Jordana Brewster, and Devon Sawa, showcasing his versatility across genres. Additionally, Gooding continues to gain recognition through his role as Chad Mix-Martin in the seventh installment of the Scream franchise. Directed by Kevin Williamson, the original writer of Scream (1996), the new film is slated for release on February 27, 2026, and is highly anticipated by horror fans worldwide.
As production on 72 Hours progresses, audiences can expect a fresh take on the classic bachelor party comedy, combining Hart’s signature humor with Gooding’s charismatic screen presence, all set to deliver a fun, energetic ride through friendship, chaos, and celebration.
