Music Box Films has unveiled the official U.S. trailer for Kill the Jockey (El Jockey), an Argentine psychological crime-comedy featuring acclaimed actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart. The film centers on Remo Manfredi, a once-promising jockey who has fallen from grace due to addiction, debt, and personal turmoil.
Kill the Jockey premiered to critical acclaim at the 2024 Venice Film Festival and subsequently screened at major international festivals including Toronto, San Sebastián, Vienna, Tokyo, and Stockholm. Directed by Luis Ortega, known for his work on El Angel and Narcos: Mexico, the film offers a surreal and darkly humorous exploration of identity, desire, and the complexities of human nature.
Nahuel Pérez Biscayart delivers a captivating performance as Remo, whose self-destructive behavior masks a deeply troubled talent. His character struggles to reclaim his place in the competitive world of horse racing, grappling with addiction to drugs commonly used on racehorses and debts owed to a local gang. The narrative also follows Abril (played by Úrsula Corberó), a rising jockey who is pregnant with Remo’s child and faces a difficult choice between motherhood and her career in the sport.
Adding further complexity is the presence of Silvina, a mysterious businesswoman with a past connection to Remo. The story delves into themes of redemption, survival, and the blurred boundaries between reality and performance.
The film’s visual style and storytelling are marked by Luis Ortega’s distinct directorial touch, blending crime drama with surreal comedy in a fresh and unpredictable way. The supporting cast includes Daniel Giménez Cacho, Daniel Fanego, Osvaldo Núñez, and Roberto Canigia, all contributing to the rich tapestry of this gripping tale.
Kill the Jockey will have a limited theatrical release in the United States starting July 2, 2025, courtesy of Music Box Films. The film is highly recommended for fans of international cinema, those interested in character-driven stories, and anyone seeking an original take on the psychological thriller genre.
