GKids Films has released a new 4K remastered trailer for the acclaimed Japanese monster film Shin Godzilla. Originally premiered in 2016 as Godzilla: Resurgence, the film marked a major reboot of the Godzilla franchise in Japan, directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi—filmmakers known for Neon Genesis Evangelion, Shin Ultraman, and Bullet Train Explosion.
This iteration features a uniquely designed, gill-equipped creature that differs from the traditional Godzilla, a choice that garnered mixed reactions in the U.S. Nevertheless, following the success of Godzilla Minus One, GKids is preparing to re-release Shin Godzilla in theaters across the United States this August in 4K format.
The film begins with an unsettling event in Tokyo Bay that soon escalates into a monstrous threat ravaging the city. The cast includes Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, and Satomi Ishihara, portraying officials grappling with the crisis.
Fans can also revisit the original 2016 trailer ahead of the new release.
Shin Godzilla (also known as Godzilla: Resurgence or シン・ゴジラ) draws inspiration from the original 1954 Godzilla and was scripted by Anno. It debuted in Japan on July 29, 2016, and reached U.S. audiences that October.
The 4K remastered edition will hit U.S. cinemas on August 14, 2025.
