Well Go USA has unveiled the official U.S. trailer for Big Deal, a South Korean thriller originally titled Soju War (소주전쟁). The film is slated for a limited theatrical release across the United States beginning early June 2025.
Set during the turbulent 1997 Asian financial crisis, Big Deal follows Byun Jong-rok, the chief financial officer of Kukbo Group, a leading soju manufacturer facing imminent collapse amid economic turmoil. As Korea struggles through financial upheaval, Byun fights to preserve his company’s legacy.
Choi In-beom, an ambitious young executive from the global investment firm Solqueen, targets Kukbo Group for acquisition. Under the pretense of a consultant, In-beom infiltrates the company’s inner circle, aiming to orchestrate a takeover while concealing his true agenda.
The clash between Byun and In-beom sparks a fierce corporate battle, with soju—a traditional Korean distilled liquor made from rice or grains, comparable to vodka—serving as a symbolic thread linking their conflict. The film offers both intense drama and cultural insight into Korea’s soju industry amid financial crisis.
Directed and written by Choi Yoon-jin, known for the forthcoming film Moral Hazard, Big Deal stars Ryu Hae-jin, Lee Je-hoon, Son Hyun-joo, Choi Young-joon, and Moon Bong. The movie was originally released in South Korea by Showbox.
Well Go USA will release Big Deal in select U.S. theaters on June 6, 2025, presenting audiences with a gripping look into Korea’s economic challenges and the cultural significance of its soju industry during a pivotal moment in history.
