The much-anticipated Lupin the IIIrd film, LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE: The Immortal Bloodline, has unveiled its main visual and official trailer, along with a scheduled premiere date of June 27, 2025, in Japan. This marks the first 2D anime movie in the Lupin the Third franchise in nearly 30 years, following the 1996 release of Lupin the Third: Dead Or Alive. The film was initially announced in November 2024.
The animation production is handled by Studio Telecom Animation Film. The newly released trailer features the theme song “THE IIIRD EYE” by renowned Japanese rock band B’z and is now available for public viewing.
Takeshi Koike directs the movie. Koike previously contributed to the franchise as a character designer and animation director for the 2012 series Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine. He has since directed three other Lupin the IIIrd films: Jigen’s Gravestone (2014), Goemon’s Blood Spray (2017), and Fujiko’s Lie (2019).
The voice cast features returning talent Kanichi Kurita as Lupin III, Akio Otsuka as Daisuke Jigen, Daisuke Namikawa as Goemon Ishikawa XIII, Miyuki Sawashiro as Fujiko Mine, and Koichi Yamadera as Inspector Koichi Zenigata. New cast members Ainosuke Kataoka and Aoi Morikawa have also joined the project.
The original Lupin III manga was created by the late Kazuhiko Kato, known by his pen name Monkey Punch. It first appeared in Weekly Manga Action magazine on August 10, 1967. The series follows the exploits of Lupin III, the grandson of gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. Since its debut, the franchise has expanded into numerous adaptations including television anime, feature films, live-action productions, and specials.
