Pixar’s Elio Final Trailer Hides Inside Out Easter Egg

by Barbara

Pixar Animation Studios has unveiled the final trailer for their much-anticipated animated feature Elio, sparking excitement among fans worldwide. Attentive viewers immediately noticed a clever Easter egg referencing Pixar’s 2015 blockbuster Inside Out embedded within the first few seconds of the trailer.

In the opening scene of the trailer, Elio’s aunt Olga, voiced by Oscar-winning actress Zoe Saldaña, is seen browsing through a parenting guide titled Parenting Your Spirited Child. As she flips the pages, she shows Elio a chart depicting various facial expressions that correspond to different emotions. These emotion icons are color-coded in a way that fans of Inside Out will instantly recognize: yellow represents joy, blue signifies sadness, and red indicates anger. While the trailer does not explicitly include all the original film’s emotions—such as disgust, fear, and anxiety—the colors green, purple, and orange appear on the chart and closely resemble those feelings, hinting at a thoughtful homage to the original movie.

Elio follows the story of a young boy with a vivid imagination who finds himself unexpectedly designated as Earth’s representative in the “Communityverse,” an interstellar alliance consisting of delegates from various galaxies. Thrust into a world of strange and quirky alien beings, Elio must navigate complex social dynamics, respond to an impending cosmic crisis, and embark on a profound journey of self-discovery and belonging. The film features Jonas Kibreab as the voice of Elio, while Zoe Saldaña lends her voice to Aunt Olga, a role that evolved after original casting changes. The supporting cast includes notable names such as Remy Edgerly, Brad Garrett, Jameela Jamil, Shirley Henderson, Matthias Schweighöfer, Brandon Moon, and Naomi Watanabe, bringing a diverse range of characters to life.

As Pixar’s sole animated feature scheduled for release in 2025, Elio carries high expectations from both audiences and critics. The film is set to premiere globally on June 20, promising to deliver the studio’s signature blend of heartwarming storytelling, innovative animation, and imaginative world-building. Following Elio, Pixar fans can look forward to a robust lineup in 2026, which includes the original animated film Hoppers and a new sequel in the beloved Toy Story franchise. The Toy Story sequel will see the return of Tim Allen and Tom Hanks reprising their iconic roles as Buzz Lightyear and Woody, respectively, alongside new cast members such as Conan O’Brien and Ernie Hudson, injecting fresh energy into the beloved series.
