Lisa, the global pop icon and Blackpink member, will be the subject of an upcoming documentary produced by Sony Music Vision and directed by Sue Kim. The announcement came during a special preview event hosted by Sony Music Vision in Hollywood on Thursday evening, highlighting the company’s slate of music film projects.
At the event, Kim Kardashian spoke about her collaboration on Lisa’s film. Acclaimed directors Baz Luhrmann and Frank Marshall also presented their own documentary projects, with Luhrmann sharing details of his Elvis Presley documentary currently in rough cut, and Marshall previewing footage from his Barbara Streisand documentary.
Sue Kim, who has worked with Lisa for over a year on the project, did not disclose a release date. Kim’s past directing credits include The Last of the Sea Women, an A24 TV documentary that premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. She also executive produced Apple TV+’s K-Pop Idols, bringing her expertise in K-pop storytelling to the project.
The preview trailer features a wide range of Lisa’s moments—from electrifying solo performances on stage to intimate scenes with family and friends. Kim Kardashian recalled that Lisa immediately reached out to her inner circle to participate in the documentary.
Lisa said in a statement: “This has been an incredible year, and I feel so fortunate to capture these special moments on film and share this journey with my fans. Working with Sue Kim has been a wonderful experience. We’ve traveled the world together, and I know this is just the beginning of many exciting things to come.”
Director Sue Kim added, “Following Lisa through such a transformative and exhilarating year is a true cinematic gift. There are many moments in her journey that will surprise audiences and reveal sides of her world never seen before. I’m thrilled for viewers to experience this extraordinary chapter in her life.”
The documentary is a joint production by Tremolo Productions, Salt Water Productions, and LLOUD CO. Producers include Morgan Neville and Caitrin Rogers (Tremolo), Sue Kim and Courtney Crockett (Salt Water), with executive producers Alice Kang and Joojong Joe (LLOUD CO.), Peter Edge, John Fleckenstein, and Camille Yorrick (RCA Records), and Tom Mackay, Krista Wegener, and Abby Davis (Sony Music Vision). It will be co-released by Sony Music Vision and RCA Records.
This announcement follows the recent release of Lisa’s debut solo album, Alter Ego, through LLOUD CO./RCA. After a year-long hiatus for solo projects, Blackpink is set to reunite this year for a short tour, with a longer reunion tour possibly in the works.
Lisa also made her acting debut this season on The White Lotus, which is featured as a topic in the documentary.
At the same event, Baz Luhrmann presented footage from his upcoming EPiC: Elvis Presley Concert film—a blend of concert and documentary formats—showcasing previously unseen archival footage and Presley’s own audio reflections. Early responses to the rough cut have been positive, even among viewers less familiar with Presley.
Sony Music Vision has recently expanded its portfolio with high-profile music documentaries, including Questlove’s Sly Stone and a new Pink Floyd concert film, which became the company’s highest-grossing theatrical release this spring.
