HBO Max has released the first teaser trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, a new prequel series to the popular It films, which is set to premiere in the fall of 2025. The nine-episode show will explore the dark origins of Derry, Maine, unfolding 27 years before the events of the 2017 and 2019 It movies.
Set in 1962, the storyline focuses on the Black Spot, a nightclub that served Black patrons and was destroyed in a racially motivated act of violence. This tragedy is portrayed as a crucial event in Derry’s history, signaling the beginning of a new cycle of terror driven by the sinister force known as Pennywise.
Bill Skarsgård returns to portray Pennywise the Dancing Clown, reviving the terrifying figure that haunted audiences in the previous films. The teaser trailer captures the haunting tone of the series, featuring a young hitchhiker warning others against returning to Derry, a Black family enduring hostility after moving to the town, and children investigating disturbing disappearances. The trailer ends with a chilling glimpse of Pennywise, hinting at the horrors yet to unfold.
The series is developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the filmmakers behind the It movies, alongside Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane. The cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.
It: Welcome to Derry will premiere on HBO and HBO Max in fall 2025.
