The cast of The Mummy, directed by Lee Cronin, continues to expand with the addition of Moon Knight star May Calamawy. She joins a growing ensemble that includes Veronica Falcón and May Elghety, along with previously announced cast members Jack Reynor and Laia Costa. The movie is currently being filmed in Ireland and Spain and is being produced by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse for New Line Cinema.
The new Mummy film, slated for release on April 17, 2026, is a fresh take on the classic tale. Cronin, known for his work on Evil Dead Rise, has teased that this version will be unlike any previous Mummy film, delving into ancient and terrifying supernatural forces. Unlike the earlier reboots, Cronin’s film will not be connected to the Universal Monsters franchise.
May Calamawy is best known for her role as Layla El-Faouly/Scarlet Scarab in Marvel’s Moon Knight, and her breakout performance in Hulu’s Ramy. In addition to her acting career, Calamawy was also involved in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, though her scenes were ultimately cut.
Fans are also eagerly awaiting news on Moon Knight Season 2. While it has not been officially greenlit, Marvel Studios has expressed excitement about the potential continuation of the series, sparking speculation that both Calamawy and Oscar Isaac might return for future MCU projects.
