Titus Welliver Stars in Chilling New Horror ‘Abraham’s Boys’

by Barbara

Titus Welliver, best known for his decade-long portrayal of Harry Bosch in Bosch and its sequel Bosch: Legacy, is set to star in his first feature film since the series ended—a horror movie that looks genuinely spine-chilling.

Welliver’s acclaimed roles include the Man in Black on Lost, Silas Adams on Deadwood, Jimmy O’Phelan on Sons of Anarchy, and Elijah Reed on The Punisher. He has also appeared in several Ben Affleck-directed films such as Gone Baby Gone (2007), The Town (2010), Argo (2012), and Live by Night (2016).

Bosch: Legacy aired ten seasons, including its original series and spin-off, before being canceled in September 2024. The final season of the spin-off is scheduled to air on Amazon Freevee between March and April 2025. Additionally, CBS decided not to proceed with a planned Punisher spin-off focused on Welliver’s character Elijah Reed, marking another setback in his television career. However, Welliver is shifting his focus to film, starring in the upcoming horror feature Abraham’s Boys: The Dracula Story.

Shudder has released the first official trailer for the film, directed by Natasha Kermani and adapted from a short story by bestselling author Joe Hill, known for The Fireman and The Black Phone. Welliver plays Abraham Van Helsing in a story set in 1915, years after the events of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The cast also includes Jocelyn Donahue, Judah Mackey, Aurora Perrineau, and Brady Hepner.

Abraham’s Boys centers on Van Helsing’s sons, Max and Rudy, who grow up under their father’s strict and secretive control, unaware of his dark past. As they unravel Abraham’s brutal connection to Dracula, their lives spiral into chaos, forcing them to confront a terrifying legacy they never expected.

This film offers a fresh take on the Dracula mythos. Unlike the traditional British and Transylvanian settings of Stoker’s novel, the story follows the Van Helsing family’s migration to America, exploring generational trauma and a new cultural context for the Dracula legend. This approach distinguishes it from many repetitive Dracula adaptations.

The Dracula franchise has seen a resurgence recently, with Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu reboot and the upcoming Dracula: A Love Story. Given the commercial success of Nosferatu—which earned over $181 million on a $50 million budget—Abraham’s Boys has strong potential to captivate horror audiences if marketed well.

Welliver delivers a standout performance as Van Helsing, convincingly portraying the pressures and paranoia tied to his secret link with Dracula. His nuanced acting captures Abraham’s growing obsession and erratic behavior, enhancing the film’s unsettling atmosphere.

After a decade of playing Harry Bosch, this chilling horror film offers Welliver a compelling new role to showcase his range. Fans can look forward to Abraham’s Boys: The Dracula Story as an intriguing exploration of horror and legacy, supported by Joe Hill’s unique storytelling and Welliver’s captivating performance.
