Paramount+ has officially announced that the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will premiere on Thursday, July 17, 2025, with the first two episodes released simultaneously. Following the premiere, new episodes will be available every Thursday, leading up to the season finale on September 11, 2025.
After the second season ended on a suspenseful note—featuring Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the USS Enterprise aiding Batel’s team, including Chapel (Jess Bush), during a dangerous encounter with the Gorn—the upcoming season promises to continue this storyline. Several characters, including Batel (Melanie Scrofano), La’an (Christina Chong), M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), Ortegas (Melissa Navia), and Sam (Dan Jeannotte), remain central to the evolving plot.
The main cast returning for Season 3 includes Anson Mount as Captain Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Ethan Peck as Spock, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, and Martin Quinn as Montgomery Scott. Paul Wesley will appear as a special guest star portraying Kirk, while Carol Kane and Melanie Scrofano return in guest roles.
New additions to the cast include Cillian O’Sullivan as Dr. Roger Korby, a legacy character first seen in Star Trek: The Original Series. Korby, described as “the Louis Pasteur of archaeological medicine,” is also Chapel’s ex-fiancé. Additionally, Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt are set to guest star in the season.
Season 3 will continue to follow Captain Pike and the Enterprise crew as they face the conclusion of their tense confrontation with the Gorn. Paramount+ teases that the season will introduce new lifeforms and civilizations, including a formidable villain who will challenge the characters’ resolve. The season is set to explore a variety of genres never before seen in any Star Trek series, including murder mysteries, romantic comedies, and documentary-style episodes.
Jonathan Frakes, known for his work directing episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, has revealed that he directed one of the Season 3 episodes. He described it as possibly the best television episode he has ever directed, highlighting its “Hollywood murder mystery” style.
Paramount+ debuted a new season trailer at New York Comic Con, showcasing the crew receiving evacuation orders and encountering new complications. Earlier footage from San Diego Comic-Con featured scenes where Captain Pike and others temporarily transform into Vulcans but struggle to revert to their normal forms.
Looking ahead, Paramount+ has already renewed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for a fourth season, with production underway in Toronto as of April 2025. Jeff Grossman, Paramount+’s Executive Vice President of Programming, praised the series for its unique blend of action, adventure, and humor and expressed excitement about the continued expansion of the Star Trek universe.
