Peacock Unveils First Look at “The Paper”, a Mockumentary

by Barbara

Peacock has revealed the first look at The Paper, an upcoming mockumentary series set in the same universe as The Office. The show, which is slated to premiere in September, was previewed during a special event for advertisers hosted by NBCUniversal in New York. While the exact premiere date has yet to be announced, the first-look image was unveiled to give fans a glimpse of what’s to come.

The series stars Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Oscar Nunez, the latter of whom will reprise his role from the American version of The Office. The show’s plot centers around a documentary crew that, after having immortalized the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch, seeks out new subjects. They discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and a publisher determined to revive it.

During the preview event, a teaser trailer for the series was also shown. It revealed that the story takes place at the Toledo Truth newspaper office, where the documentary crew wanders through the space. Oscar Nunez’s character, who now works as the newspaper’s accountant, is reluctant to engage with the crew again. Sabrina Impacciatore plays the editor-in-chief, and Gleeson portrays an idealistic new hire.

In addition to Nunez, Gleeson, and Impacciatore, the cast includes Chelsea Frey, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Ki. The show was created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur, the team behind The Office, who also serve as executive producers, along with The Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

The Paper is one of several scripted projects Peacock has presented to advertisers, with other notable titles including Teddy Bear, an animated series starring Seth MacFarlane, and the reboot of The Suburbs starring Keke Palmer.

The upcoming series is expected to tap into the success of The Office, which has maintained a loyal fan base since its original airing. The Paper promises to deliver similar comedic elements while exploring new workplace dynamics within the context of a struggling newspaper.
