Lily Collias, Joe Anders, and Malia Pyles are set to join the star-studded cast of Cape Fear, Apple TV+’s upcoming adaptation of the classic psychological thriller. Although details regarding their specific roles have not been disclosed, they will be joining a talented ensemble that includes Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, CCH Pounder, Anna Baryshnikov, Jamie Hector, and Clara Wong.
Cape Fear is a 10-episode series created and written by Nick Antosca, best known for his work on The Act and Channel Zero. The story is based on both the 1962 film Cape Fear and its 1991 remake, which was directed by Martin Scorsese. The series follows Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson), a married couple of attorneys whose lives are turned upside down when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, is released from prison. As the storm clouds gather, the series explores the couple’s struggle with their past while also delving into America’s growing obsession with true crime.
The series will also tackle themes of justice, vengeance, and morality, and promises to offer a tense, Hitchcockian thriller experience. The show is produced by Universal Content Productions (UCP), a division of Universal Studio Group, in collaboration with Amblin Television, which produced the 1991 remake of the film. Executive producers include Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund (Eat The Cat), Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey (Amblin Television), as well as Steven Spielberg, who served as an executive producer for the Scorsese-directed version of Cape Fear. Morten Tyldum will direct the pilot episode.

Lily Collias is gaining recognition for her standout performance in Good One, a critically acclaimed Sundance title, and has been nominated for a Gotham Award for Breakthrough Performer. Joe Anders is also making waves in the industry, having recently starred in the Netflix adaptation of East of Eden, alongside Florence Pugh. His past credits include the UK indie Bonus Track and the award-winning film I Am Ruth.

A Classic Thriller Reimagined
The original Cape Fear film, directed by J. Lee Thompson and starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, was based on the 1957 novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald. The 1991 remake, directed by Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro, brought the story to a modern audience, cementing the tale as a psychological thriller classic.
With the Cape Fear series, Apple TV+ is aiming to offer a fresh, updated perspective on this tense and riveting story, blending psychological horror with social commentary on the country’s true crime obsession. With a stellar cast and the backing of some of the most respected names in the industry, this series promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
