Apple TV+ has greenlit an exciting new crime thriller series titled The Fugitive, starring Hugh Laurie, best known for his roles in House and The Night Manager. The eight-episode series is being produced by George Kay, co-creator of Hijack, and is set to be a major addition to the streaming platform’s growing catalog of original programming.
The Fugitive follows the story of Felix Carmichael (played by Laurie), the infamous head of a notorious British crime syndicate known as “The Capital.” After evading the law for 20 years, Carmichael is finally captured and sent to the infamous Stapherst Prison. However, upon his arrival, he discovers that his former associates have betrayed him. As his empire begins to crumble, Carmichael must risk everything to escape from prison and take revenge. If he succeeds, he will once again become a fugitive, seeking to rebuild the criminal empire he lost.
The series features an ensemble cast alongside Laurie, including Thandiwe Newton, Fionn Whitehead, Gina McKee, Hazel Doupe, Elliott Heffernan, and Stephen Dillane. Newton will portray a single mother, while Heffernan plays her son. McKee stars as Carmichael’s wife, and Dillane plays his brother.
This new series marks Laurie’s return to Apple TV+, following his appearance in the third season of Tehran. Produced by New Pictures and Kay’s Observatory Pictures, The Fugitive is created and written by George Kay, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Willow Greer and Matt Sanford. The series is directed by Jacob Verbruggen, known for The Fall.
The Fugitive joins a growing list of high-profile productions on Apple TV+, including Hijack, starring Idris Elba, and Slow Horses, starring Gary Oldman. This series will add to the platform’s impressive slate of British-based content, which also includes the upcoming The Road to the Cemetery, starring Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson.
With the premiere of The Fugitive on the horizon, Apple TV+ continues to build a diverse lineup of original series, cementing its position as a major player in the streaming industry.
