Netflix Unveils Official Trailer for Gripping Crime Drama “Department Q”

The dark thriller series, based on best-selling novels, will premiere on May 29

Netflix has officially released the trailer for its upcoming crime thriller series Department Q. The series is based on the best-selling novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen and features a dark tone, compelling characters, and a complex mystery.

The show is created, written, and directed by Scott Frank, best known for The Queen’s Gambit. It stars Matthew Goode as Detective Carl Mørck, a brilliant but abrasive Edinburgh cop. Mørck’s harsh personality and cutting sarcasm have left him isolated and distrusted within the police department.

After a tragic event that results in the death of a young officer and leaves his partner paralyzed, Mørck is demoted and reassigned to the newly formed Department Q. This unit focuses on cold cases and appears to exist more for public image than for solving crimes. Banished to a basement office, Mørck is treated like an outcast by his superiors. However, he slowly begins to form a surprising team—colleagues who, like him, have been pushed to the margins but are determined to prove their worth.

The trailer teases a brooding, suspenseful series filled with sharp dialogue, psychological tension, and a core mystery. The story begins with Mørck reopening the case of a missing government employee from years earlier. As he digs deeper, his old instincts reignite, driving him to seek justice at all costs—even if it means exposing old wounds that were long buried.

Department Q features a strong supporting cast including Chloe Pirrie, Alexej Manvelov, Kelly Macdonald, and Leah Byrne. The writing team includes Stephen Greenhorn, Colette Kane, and Chandni Lakhani. The series is set to premiere on Netflix on May 29, 2025, and promises to combine gripping storytelling with rich character development—marking another standout addition to Netflix’s lineup of crime dramas.
