As filming commences for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, a first look image has been released, offering a tease of what’s to come following the season 1 skull island cliffhanger.
In the season 1 finale, Cate, May, and Keiko escaped the Hollow Earth with Lee Shaw’s sacrifice, only to end up on Skull Island two years later, where Kentaro was working with Apex Cybernetics and Kong was teased.
The newly released image shows the Operation Hourglass vehicle the trio returned in, along with two vehicles bearing red Apex logos, set against the backdrop of Skull Island’s jungle, indicating it’ll be a key location for season 2.
What Monarch Season 2’s First Look Signifies for the Monsterverse Series? Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 appears set to continue from where season 1 left off, with the main characters on Skull Island as Kong approaches Apex facilities. While Apex is known for creating Mechagodzilla in a later movie, season 2 takes place in 2017, before that event.
It’s unclear what Apex is doing on Skull Island, but their research may be linked to Mechagodzilla’s creation. Given Godzilla’s past feuds with Kongs, it makes sense for them to study Kong to build something to defeat him and control Titans. The show will need to clarify the cast’s involvement, especially considering May’s history with the company.
The Main Cast in Peril from All Sides
Although details about Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 are scarce, the image suggests Apex’s backstory will be central. This could lead to the appearance of other robotic Titans, either existing like Mechani-Kong or new to the Monsterverse. The research and interactions in season 2 will likely set the stage for Apex’s future role in the franchise, putting the main cast in a precarious position.
