Prestige Intl. Pictures has secured the global rights (excluding Japan and China) for the sci-fi action film Heaven: The Boy and His Robot, starring Jonathan See. The Singapore-produced movie has already been showcased at Fantasia and Fantasporto festivals and will be presented to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival this week.
The film, written, directed, and produced by Rich Ho, follows a young pilot named Kai and his battle mech, a giant humanoid robot named Xiao Long, as they embark on an epic journey set against the backdrop of a galactic war. The story explores Kai’s dream of joining the mech army to bring peace to a war-torn world and the bond that develops between him and his mech.
Rich Ho, who also serves as the film’s composer, art director, set designer, cinematographer, and co-visual effects director, stated, “This film celebrates perseverance and unity during divisive times. Heaven presents heart-pounding action, humor, and emotional experiences on the big screen that will resonate with audiences of all ages around the world.”
Carlos Lincon, President of Prestige, commented, “Rich Ho has delivered a masterpiece, a work that has taken 12 years to bring to life. The film is filled with epic robot battles and groundbreaking visual effects, but more importantly, it conveys an inspiring message: never give up on your dreams.”
The film is Singapore’s first live-action mecha movie, a genre inspired by Japanese manga and anime, which features innovations in robots and cybernetic beings.
The film will be released in Japan by Henge. Executive producers include BC Tan, Takaki Nakadai, Sherman Ng, Penny Wall, Grant Bradley, and Richard Stewart.
Heaven: The Boy and His Robot is poised to be a significant milestone for the Singaporean film industry, bringing mecha storytelling to global audiences.
