Jeremy Allen White Plays Springsteen in New Biopic

by Barbara

Jeremy Allen White takes on the role of American rock legend Bruce Springsteen in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, an upcoming biographical film whose first official trailer was released on June 18. The film, directed by Scott Cooper and produced by 20th Century Studios, is scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters on October 24.

According to a statement from 20th Century Studios, the film chronicles the deeply personal and stripped-down creation of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska. At the time, Springsteen was a rising star grappling with the pressures of fame and his own troubled past. The album was recorded in a modest bedroom in New Jersey using a four-track recorder, and is widely considered one of the most haunting and enduring works of his career.

“This record marked a pivotal moment in Bruce Springsteen’s life,” the statement reads. “It’s a raw and unforgettable acoustic album filled with lost souls searching for something to believe in.”

The trailer opens with a low-key scene in which Springsteen, considering buying a new car, is recognized by the salesman. “Well, then I guess we’re in this together,” he replies—a line that sets the introspective tone for the rest of the preview.

White, known for his Emmy-winning role in The Bear, stars as Springsteen, while Jeremy Strong portrays Jon Landau, Springsteen’s longtime manager and creative partner. A series of scenes follows, including Springsteen recording music in a quiet room, guitar in hand, as a sound engineer assists. “It doesn’t need to be perfect,” he says. “I want it to feel like I’m alone in the room.”

In another scene, Landau appears in a record label’s office, passionately defending Springsteen’s artistic direction. “This isn’t about us. It’s not about the charts. It’s about Bruce,” he says. The trailer cuts to Springsteen playing guitar and harmonica, emphasizing, “These are the songs he needs to write right now.”

Visually, the trailer mixes contemporary and nostalgic imagery, including a poignant black-and-white flashback of Springsteen as a child boxing with his father in a bedroom—an emotional nod to the room where Nebraska was born. Over these images, a voiceover explains: “Bruce was a fixer. What he did with this album was fix the hole in his floor. What he was really doing was fixing the hole inside himself. And once he fixed that, he set out to fix the whole world.”

The trailer crescendos with rapid edits of Springsteen in the studio and onstage, culminating in a powerful clip of him performing his iconic hit “Born to Run.” As it ends, Springsteen’s voice reflects, “I’m just trying to find something in all this noise.”

White has previously expressed his intention to perform some of the songs himself for the film. Reports also confirm that Springsteen has given his blessing to the project and to White’s portrayal of him.

The film is based on the book Deliver Me From Nowhere by Warren Zanes and features a supporting cast that includes Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, Odessa Young, Gaby Hoffmann, Marc Maron, and David Krumholtz.

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere opens in theaters nationwide on October 24.
