The film is now available for pre-order, offering genre enthusiasts a fresh wave of nostalgia and insight into one of horror’s most transformative eras.
As its title suggests, In Search of Darkness: 1995–1999 turns the spotlight on late-90s horror, exploring the development and cultural impact of key films from the era. The documentary covers a wide array of influential titles, including Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Craft, Bride of Chucky, The Sixth Sense, Ringu, and The Blair Witch Project. It promises an immersive journey through both the mainstream and cult corners of horror cinema that defined a generation.
Director David Weiner returns to helm the latest installment and brings along interviews and commentary from some of horror’s most iconic voices. The film features insights from legendary director John Carpenter, actor Doug Bradley, filmmaker Mike Flanagan, actor Andrew Divoff, and composer Marco Beltrami, among others. Akela Cooper and Corbin Bernsen also lend their voices to the documentary’s in-depth discussions.
“This was an incredibly exciting time to be a horror fan,” said Weiner in a statement to Bloody Disgusting. “With its signature backdrop, celebration, and deep nostalgia, In Search of Darkness: 1995–1999 captures that lightning-in-a-bottle moment. I daresay this may be the best In Search of Darkness entry yet.”
