Anne Hathaway has a new film in the works titled “Verity”, which has added Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett to its lead roles. The movie is based on the best-selling mystery romance novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover (“Love, So Far”). It was directed by Michael Showalter (“Imagination of You”) and penned by Nick Antoska. Dakota Johnson will play Lowan, while Josh Hartnett will take on the role of Jeremy, Hathaway’s husband in the story.
The plot of the film unfolds as follows: Lowan ASHLEY (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer facing financial difficulties, views an opportunity as the job of a lifetime. She’s tasked with helping the best-selling thriller novelist Verity (Anne Hathaway) complete her book series after Verity is severely injured in a car accident and rendered unable to write. Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), invites Lowan to live at their opulent Crawford estate and grants her access to Verity’s extensive manuscript archives so she can commence work promptly. However, when Lowan stumbles upon an unfinished manuscript that resembles Verity’s autobiography and details her family’s string of horse seizures, Lowan realizes there’s a hidden, darker side to their seemingly idyllic life and decides to seek out the truth.
The original novel, which was self-published in 2018, has been characterized as a “gothic, psychological thriller” in the style of “Butterfly Dream” and “Gone Girl”. Thanks to the success of this summer’s Blake Lively film “Love, It Ends Here”, Colleen Hoover’s works have gained significant traction in Hollywood. Moreover, another of her books, “Reminders Of Him”, is also set to be adapted for the screen.
