NBC is expanding its primetime lineup with a potential new drama series inspired by Candice Fox’s 2023 novel Fire With Fire. The show, which will star This Is Us alum Jon Huertas, follows the story of an unlikely partnership between a seasoned undercover cop and a rookie cop who must work together to solve a high-stakes case.
Huertas will not only star in the series but also executive produce alongside The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley. Wendy Mericle, known for her work as a co-showrunner on Arrow, will write the script for the adaptation.
The drama centers on Huertas’ character, Enrique Arroyo, a grizzled and experienced undercover cop, who teams up with Lynette Lamb, a rookie cop struggling with a recent failure in her career. Together, they must navigate a tense standoff when two grieving parents take over an LAPD forensics lab and threaten to destroy crucial evidence unless the authorities can help them locate their missing daughter.
This new series marks a return to NBC for Huertas, who portrayed Miguel Rivas in all six seasons of This Is Us. His other notable TV roles include appearances in Castle, Generation Kill, and Elementary.
Meanwhile, Alexi Hawley continues to serve as the driving force behind ABC’s popular cop procedural The Rookie, which is currently airing its seventh season. Hawley is also attached to write and executive produce a possible second spinoff of The Rookie. Earlier this month, his Netflix series The Recruit was canceled after two seasons, leading him to express his gratitude to fans in a heartfelt social media post.
As NBC develops this promising new series, audiences are left wondering whether Fire With Fire will be the next big hit for the network.
