Daniel Craig, best known for his role as James Bond, is reportedly in discussions to portray the iconic character Sgt. Rock in a new DC Studios project. Under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, the DC Universe is expanding with several exciting new adaptations.
The Sgt. Rock Project
Directed by Luca Guadagnino, acclaimed for his work on Call Me by Your Name and Bones and All, the film will explore the story of Sgt. Frank Rock, a World War II Army officer who, despite lacking superpowers, is a skilled and fearless combatant. Justin Kuritzkes has been tapped to write the screenplay.
What Craig’s Casting Means
This marks Craig’s first foray into the world of comic book adaptations. Although he almost joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe years ago, he ultimately dropped out. Now, Craig is set to make his DC debut with Sgt. Rock. It remains unclear whether the film will be part of the main DCU continuity or exist in a separate universe, leaving room for a variety of potential crossovers with other DC characters.
Craig’s Casting
With Daniel Craig and Luca Guadagnino leading the project, Sgt. Rock has the potential to be a more auteur-driven film, similar to the success of recent DC entries like The Batman and Joker. Should the film be integrated into the main DCU, Craig’s Sgt. Rock could potentially team up with other heroes in future crossovers, adding an exciting layer to the growing universe.
