‘Off the Record’ Trailer Reveals Dark Tale of Love and Music

by Barbara

Quiver Distribution has unveiled the official trailer for Off the Record, an indie drama centered on a rising singer-songwriter caught in a toxic relationship with a washed-up rock star. Set to hit select US theaters and VOD on May 2, 2025, the film explores the complexities of love, control, and identity in the cutthroat music industry.

Directed and written by Kirsten Foe, a former stuntwoman making her feature directorial debut, Off the Record stars Rainey Qualley, an up-and-coming musician and actress, in the lead role of Astor Grey. Astor, a talented Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, falls for Brandyn Verge (Ryan Hansen), a faded rock star. Their whirlwind romance quickly devolves into a dark tale of manipulation and emotional turmoil, forcing Astor to reclaim her autonomy and rediscover her musical voice.

Rainey Qualley, known for her work in the short music video Love Me Like You Hate Me, brings a raw, captivating performance as Astor, a character whose life is upended by her relationship with the troubled Brandyn. The film also features notable performances from Ryan Hansen, Olivia Sui, Julia Campbell, Will Peltz, and Rebecca De Mornay.

The soundtrack includes two songs by Qualley, performing under her stage name Rainsford. The tracks feature the powerful anthem See Me Cry and a haunting cover of Bruce Springsteen’s I’m On Fire, both of which will be featured on her upcoming album, released alongside the film.
